How do you do a good french manicure at home?

I like to paint my nails and do a lot but i rarely paint them french manicure cauz it away looks messy. does anyone know how to do it good and not spend too much money if i have to buy a kit. i live in the uk so if you recommend a shop make sure its in the uk please.How do you do a good french manicure at home?
