Try using a old paint brush not to big med like 1/2 inch wife and dippin it in nail polish remover to remove any extra white polish and to make the line even. Let the white dry a min then add the clear or pink tint polish.
You know where the white part of your finger is? The top of your nail. cover the rest of your finger nail with a piece of tape and paint the top of the tape which is the white part of your fingernail
1. Make sure your nails are clean, trimmed and shaped how you want them. Make sure to trim off cuticles and hang nails with SHARP cuticle trimmers. Your regular nail cutter will not do the trick.

2. Many drug stores will sell stencils that help you get the white part on straight. I use them for mine and they turn out nicely.

3. Make sure you do all the application steps. Don't put on a thick layer of nail polish since that's just going to look bad. 2-3 thin coats work best for a smooth, shiny finish. Make sure to put on the clear base and top coats! This will protect your nail and keep the manicure looking nice for longer.

4. Don't do it when you're in a rush. It is time consuming work. I do my nails once a week when I have the time to do them.

5. Practice, practice, practice!
Try using the french manicure pen, it's easier to use than the normal nail polish brush. They also have French manicure strips that you can put on your nails, which help guide where you put the coat.
Trial and Error. Keep trying and you'll eventually get it. You just need steady hands for that. Doing it alone just takes practice.
The only answer i have is keep trying i was in the same situation as you are in but now i can do it well.
